Gerdan handmade Г52

A handmade gerdan — a traditional Ukrainian neck ornament in beads. The piece is carefully woven by hand to an original pattern by Olha Seniuk. The gerdan is 48 centimetres long plus a comfortable neck band. The finished ornament is about 12 centimetres wide. Every gerdan is made by hand, so each one looks unlike any other.

The gerdan is an old neck ornament that has always gone with the Ukrainian national costume. It naturally completes a vyshyvanka and finishes a festive, formal women’s look. Beadwork carries on the folk tradition passed down from one generation to the next. The handwork makes the ethnic look whole, authentic and complete. An ornament like this will be a real adornment at photo sessions, family celebrations and formal occasions.
